Scrappy Time

Don't be jealous! Promise me you will not. I am going on a whole weekend (Friday morning - Sunday late afternoon) Scrapbooking Retreat. Some of you might be thinking that this would be heavenly, but I am a little ill-prepared. My biggest problem is that I don't scrapbook or haven't in several years. My son who is eight has a first year scrapbook and my daughter who is six has been a little neglected. So, in lieu of that. . .

I have gone digital. I will miss the hours of cutting, pasting and pop dotting, but I have to be efficient. This weekend I will devote my time to Blurb. Blurb is a site where you can import (not upload, which is great) your pictures to make a scrapbook. Another alternative is that you can make cookbooks from your favorite recipes or even make a book out of your blog. It is a really cool site. I imported about 4,000 pictures the other night which took about 1.5 hours to do (meaning: finding, picking and importing pics). That is a huge time-saver in light of the hours upon hours it has taken on other sites like shutterfly and snapfish. I can't wait to tell you how it turns out and all of the details.

Another thing is that if anyone knows how to auto-pilot blogspot I would be extremely indebted to you. I want to be loyal to my readership, but I am a big blog dummy when it comes to techy stuff. So, if you know how to make posts happen when you are not actually around I would love to find this information out for the future.

Have a great clappy, scrappy weekend!

Signs of Life

While most everyone around the country is shoveling snow we are mowing our grass. Just kidding. . .not mowing yet, but I have discovered some bulbs that Hansel and I planted late October, early November are sprouting. I never believed they would come up. Someone had told me or I read somewhere to plant better bulbs than Wal Mart offers, but I did not feel like spending a fortune on bulbs. Also, I have never planted bulbs before. The main reason I have never planted bulbs was because you cannot plant bulbs in concrete, a tribute to our former life in an apartment in Dallas. Well, I am just too excited. Soon we should see some pretty little daffodils and tulips. Yay!

An exciting story and a big tip for you!

It seems like I collected most of my wild stories when I lived in Dallas. Bare with me for a few minutes and I promise to get to the Works for Me Wednesday part.

A few years back, I lived in downtown Dallas. At that time I had the "blingiest" purse known to man woman. Just imagine in your mind for a moment, black lining with every color of the rainbow sequins draping the outside. You know the kind. . .the kind that was popular back then and the sequins fell off all over the place, but you carried it till it shed every last dangling sequin. I bought it at Sam Moon. Aggh, do you see the drool when I think about Sam Moon. Anyway, I loved my purse as well as my cute pink Liz Claiborne wallet.

Not as much as I love my life though. I was enjoying a nice fast food dinner at Taco Bell with my kids, a girlfriend and her 3 kids. If you know me, you know I was talking more than eating and was not paying any attention to what was going on around me. That is when I felt a push from behind me and saw my dazzlling diva purse go right out the door. Two guys had come into Taco Bell, scoped out the place and snatched my purse.

The point is that when guys like this snatch your purse and run out your money is sure to be going out even quicker. Before I got home, my debit card had been used. I canceled all of my credit cards as quickly as possible, but there was one thing I did not cancel. You're not going to believe it.

. . .my library card. I did not cancel my library card. In Dallas, they notify you if you are late on returning your books via email. I had a book out, but it was just this one book and so I ignored my emails that kept coming. Finally, one day they were being so insistent about the emails that I popped one open and realized that there was something odd going on. I figured it was just a mistake on their part, but then started thinking I needed to stop by the library to clear this up. I ended up having to go to the Main Dallas Library to solve the mystery when they informed me that I owed them like $1,000 for over 20 CD's and DVD's + late fees that were out on my card. My mouth dropped and I started to tear up when I realized that they were serious. You see my husband was in seminary at that time and we were Buh Roke, BROKE!!!!

The not-so-kind or compassionate librarian said that we would be turned over to a collection agency if we did not pay it. I could not believe it. This group of scoundrels, the thieves, not the librarians, had charged up my library card. The librarian said that I was supposed to report my card as lost or stolen. I said, "you have got to be kidding me. . .my library card!!!"

We talked with the person that was in charge of this kind of dilemma and she said that we needed to replace $200 worth of the merchandise and they would not report us to the collection agency and this would be over. We got on half.com and found $200 worth for about $85.00. We probably bought it back from the thieves. Can you believe this? So the moral of the story is that when your purse is lost or stolen, CANCEL YOUR LIBRARY CARD TOO!

It Feels Like Two Days - Tackle It Tuesday

Have you ever gotten up so early and worked so hard that you thought surely two days have passed? Well, that was my today (or was it yesterday? :))

These are my results of my "Tackle it Tuesday" by 5 Minutes for Mom. It took overcoming the avalanche, a family sock party as well as standing in line at the post office with my two kids and chatting with those around me to accomplish it. Also, I almost tackled my 8 year old home schooler! :)

Drumroll please. . . .

The avalanche came down. . .it is still being sorted through, but it has been broken down!

No packages waiting to be mailed. They are off! I even sent some things that I had been meaning to mail to family since last June. Don't faint. It could be worse, right?

This is where a great deal of the clothes were this morning. Yay, I can sleep on the blanket instead of on clean underwear. Better than dirty, huh?

These are my helpers! I could not have done it without them.

You know it's time to get off the computer when you can hear yourself snoring. Gotta run! See you tomorrow for Works for Me Wednesday and a post about the Spring's A'comin!

Tackle It Tuesday

Last night we had "Small Group" at our house. Most of my house was clean, but if you would have opened my desk door an avalanche would have poured out on your head. This is the "real" me! I love organization, but every area of my life is not organized or ever will be.

So, that is why I need this humiliation accountability! :)

This is the first area of business.

The good news is that they are all clean!! The bad news is that they need a place to go!

The other dreaded thing I have to do is go to the Post Office to send some clothes back that I bought online. Also, my little niece Bridget is going to be receiving a fun package soon! :) I think the lines are longer now than they were at Christmas. My husband thinks I have a Post Office Disorder because I abhor so it much. I think I do too.

This is the avalanche waiting to smother me. Maybe I should refer to my post on Paper Clutter to help myself out! What do you think?

This is my last area of tackling and I am not sure that I will get to it. I am going to try to give myself lots of grace. Not too much. . .but enough. This is the way I started organizing my car and I will post more about that later.

The other tackles are calling my name as well.
1) homeschool my 8 year old
2) work!

Hope you are enjoying your tackles today! I hope to have pictures of my accomplishments at least by midnight tonight :)!

Menu Plan Monday

Last week, we ate well, but this week may top it! I love planning my menu each week. I know I have said it before, but it is such a relief to me to not have to think about what we are having for dinner each night. I have a plan and for the most part we stick with the plan.

My Sunday Best

1) What do you do if you find alcohol in your teenagers car?
2) Do you know your Geography Trivia? (If you called me this week and I was a little distracted this might be why. :))
3) Are you a mom, love to write and looking for a way to get published? Join this essay contest for Mother's Day.
4) Have you been wanting to sell on ebay, but were not too sure how to go about it?
5) What is a great site for fabulous decorating tips?

Would you like to see "My Sunday Best" be a place where you can add your own links? If so comment and let me know if you would like to add your own links. They can be linked to your own site if you feel like it was the best thing you saw on the web all week. I will add a Mr. Linky next week if I get enough feedback.

Have a wonderful week!

Organizing My Blog because I am Lazy

Yes, I am obsessed to say the least with organizing our life to make it easier. It is in my laziness that I organize. I want my kids to know where things belong, my husband to put the groceries in fridge in the right place and for all of my kid's friends to know that there is order in the Princess's home! I don't want to have to do things myself. There it is. . .true confession. No more picking up toys after my kid's friends. :)

I have great hope that this will help you be more efficient on my blog. I am finally organizing my labels for each post. In the sidebar on the right you will find a detailed label and under each label you will find my post pertaining to that label.

Recently, I had a friend call and not be able to find a recipe that she knew I posted on my blog. This disturbed me to say the least. So, now when you are looking for something you know I posted on before I want you to be able to find it. Out of my laziness for not having to look for it myself I want to help you find what you need. Aren't I nice?

I am not quite finished with labeling my posts. I should be done by next year next week because I have posted a lot and I have to go back in to each post to categorize them. I hope that this helps you to find what you need for the future.

For now, Happy Hunting!

Brain Dead

I don't know if it is 5 days straight of working out at the gym, having 2 kids and a husband, 3 cats, sea monkeys and a much neglected fish or the simple fact that my brain is dead that is making me "postless" this week. Sorry my loyal and faithful readers reader. :)

Love you guys and hope you are having a great week. More posts to come. I am working on some fun links for "My Sunday Best."

Carport Chaos

Today is backward's Works for Me Wednesday and boy do I need help!

When my husband and I bought our house almost 2 years ago I had grandiose dreams and ideas about tearing down our carport and either adding a garage or a new carport. We discovered our carport leaks rather profusely. Because our carport is attached to our house we have to make our carport the perfect "pitch." I am super limited in my knowledge of adding on or building anything. My husband is pretty skilled, but is limited by being a one man band!

My questions to you are:
1) Have you taken on a big project such as building a garage or carport?
2) What problems did you encounter?
3) Did you do it yourself or did you hire out?
4) Do you have regrets or are you pleased overall with the results?
5) Did it cost you an arm and a leg?

I would love to have a screened in porch for our hot, mosquitoey weather and a carport/garage. Any thoughts, prayers and advice would be great!

Check out Rocks in my Dryer to help some others with their various dilemmas.

Update: Yesterday I had a really strange comment from someone-like someone who was jacked up on Mountain Dew and he wanted to help us with our carport. After reporting this person (who I tracked down) to the police I feel much better. He will probably be arrested at his work today for "Anonymous, scary posts on a girl's blog!" :) Stan, you are crazy!

Getting Organized in 2008

I am armed and dangerous and a little obsessed. . . My husband is nervous. Look out I might label you! :)

What the Princess is Having for Dinner This Week

too bad the Princess doesn't have a cook. :)

Steps to Building a Menu Plan
1) Evaluate fridge contents and pantry
2) Research: look through cookbooks, blogs, All Recipes to get new ideas as well as study the sales ads to see what is on sale
3) Make A Decision
4) Write It Down: I have a form that I write down what every breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks that I have planned out for the week; I don’t always use all of the categories, but I always write down dinner plans
5) Make a list of what I need from the store. I have a spreadsheet with the most commonly bought items by Wal Mart aisles and I just check them off or add to it what I need.

6) Enjoy my week of well-thought out menus

This process has helped my family so much. It helps in at least three areas: no running back and forth to the store throughout the week, it helps stay focused on the budget by using things that we already have, and it helps me not to panic when the family asks, “What’s for Dinner.”

Monday – Sesame Chicken and Rice
Tuesday – chili/cheese/fritos (using frozen tomatoes from the garden this past summer.)
Wednesday – Pancakes/bacon/frosty pineapple salad
Thursday – Tacos with Black Bean Salsa
Friday – Chicken Pot Pie
Saturday – Fred’s Fish House (gift certificate from Christmas)
Sunday – Taco Salad

Update: rotel is tomatoes and green chilis as shown below: I forget that rotel is a southern thang!

"My Sunday Best"

I thought I would start posting "My Sunday Best" to recall the best links and ideas that I have gathered throughout the week. This is similar to Rocks In My Dryer's Sunday Linkage, but I will get a lot of the ideas from her Works for Me Wednesday posts as well as other blogs I have stumbled upon. Many of the things that I will link to will be things that I either want to put into practice or have already.

1. What do you do with all of the Christmas Cards that you receive over the holidays?
2. How do I get my kids to help with unloading the dishes and make it easy for them?
3. Is there a place where I can post my personal goals for 2008 and get some good ideas for further development?
4. Is there a good place on the www where I can get some really tried and true recipes as well as a meal plan for my week?
5. What is Beth Moore's shoes going to look like this year and where will she buy them?

Feel free to send me ideas throughout the week that you would like to see me link to. Even if it's your own idea and you think it could make "The Sunday Best" I would love to review it and possibly link back to you.

Happy Sunday to you.
Clappy Shoes

Funny Girl!

My six year old daughter’s response to the yummy open-faced stroganoff sandwiches that we had this week. . .

“Mom, I didn’t even gag. . .all I had to do was to squeeze my neck!”

Quite the compliment, wouldn’t you say? Gotta love her. Funny girl.

More on Organizing in 2008

When I lived in Dallas I was a MOPs leader at our church and I loved it. One of my favorite things about it was the awesome speakers that we had. Once, we had a speaker and professional organizer come in to talk about getting our houses organized. Her name is Debbie Miller and I believe she took some of her ideas from a lady named Patty Chirico. I posted one of the ways that she said to go about this yesterday on Works for Me Wednesday. She had several principles to go by and I really find myself going back to this information when I am ready to take charge of an area or even a room.

First, grab a timer and a bottle of water. You’ll need trashbags, grocery sacks, zip lock bags, a marker, paper and music. Once you have that then let’s get started. These are all her principles and she based them on the book of Genesis. . .but I have a hard time thinking that God thinking of cleaning out your closet when he authored Genesis. Hmmm. . .so we will just take the way she organized rather than the Scripture that she coupled it with.

1) Pick a room or area and say the amount of time you want to spend on that. Set the timer and when it reaches that time either take a break or step away from it for a day or so.
2) Separate everything into 3 categories
a. keep b. give-away c. throw away
Pray for discernment and courage to do this. This is where the trashbags come in :)
3) Combine everything into like and similar items. Categorize where they will be used. This is where you break out the zip locs and even some baskets or containers.
4) Evaluate high and low priority as well as high and low usage
5) Assign: Find a place for everything based on what works best for you.
6) Take Authority over your paper work. This is where yesterday’s post came into play.

I hope these few simple tips help. When I am tackling something I go back to the sheet she gave us that day and focus on that. It really has helped me to stay focused and to really declutter some areas. If you don’t know, I am a pack rat in recovery. . .still attending meetings though! Hope this works for you and gives you a great start to 2008!

Paper Clutter Organization

This is a notebook that a professional organizer at my church in Dallas showed us to stay on top of all of the paper clutter. She takes this everywhere she goes-even in her car! I have had this notebook for a couple of years and it really helps me to stay organized. You can take even a couple of these subjects to stay organized in the areas where you need it the most. I think I found my notebook at Wal Mart. It has eight pockets. You may be able to get them at Target as well.

The subjects for my notebook are as follows:

1) Bills To Pay:
2) Sales to act on: Grocery/Home
3) Kids: School-Notes to sign, etc.
4) Invitations: to parties, weddings, etc.
5) Holiday Shopping: I refer back to this section every year; this could be altogether another notebook for you
6) Holiday Foods/Cooking: This reminds me of what I make every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas
7) Receipts to Keep/Rebates To Act On:
8) Take Out Food/Menus/Coupons for Food:

If you liked this idea and would love to have more like this, please comment, as well as, check out Shannon's blog at Rocks in my Dryer!

2008 New Year's Resolutions

I am blogging on this basically for my own accountability and reminders of what I am working on! It never hurts to share your deepest passions with all of cyberspace when you need a little accountability. Cheaper by the Half Dozen started this blog topic and has some great resolutions if you need help thinking of something. :)

I am reminded in a post by Wellblog on the subject of New Year’s Resolutions. “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”—Prov. 16:9 (NIV) I am keeping that in mind as I think of all that I want to do this year.

She also added in her post that they are doing a Bible study curriculum (Faithlink Dec. 30, 2007, copyright Cokesbury) and it had this quote: “While a lot of people who make New Year’s resolutions do break them, research shows that making resolutions is useful. People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don’t explicitly make resolutions.” (Quote by John Norcross, a researcher at the University of Scranton).

Spiritual Goals: How do you measure closeness with Jesus? My only guess is that you look more like Him each day. That’s the goal. The ways that I might attain this. . .
1) Consistent Quiet Time – my time is before bed because I usually hit the hay before hubby
2) Memorizing Scripture with my family through Awana
3) Praying without ceasing

My vertical relationship will impact my horizontal relationships: reaching out and ministering to others

Family Goals:
1) More Time with my Hubby (You know . . .time)
2) To play with my kids. . .you know to get down on my hands and knees in the floor and play. . .they don’t want presents, they want my presence!! That is going to be my reminder this year. Presence not presents!
3) I would say to clean my house better. . .nah!! Not important, right!? Maybe I could get a house cleaner in 2008! Woo Hoo!
4) Continue to pray and seek the Lord for wise counsel on our school decisions for next year.
5) Continue with my meal planning because they save everyone from chaos during the week. It also saves our family money when I am able to think ahead.
6) Take a family vacation somewhere. Celebrate our 10th anniversary somewhere tropical even if I have to decorate the bedroom like a rain forest! 
7) Remember my family’s birthdays and try to get a card to them on or before their birthday. We will start with family first and then work our way to friends. Baby steps!

Physical Goals:
1) Continue with my crazy exercise program; it not only benefits me physically, but emotionally, mentally as well as socially! Wow, now that’s a keeper!
2) Eat well. Look for healthy alternatives to my faves: chips and dip and cookies!
3) Drink water. Like a camel. I will look young when I am 100. Now that’s for thinking ahead!
4) Run or walk in at least one 5K like the Race for the Cure. . .possibly a summertime 5K as well would be fun.
5) Look for ways to push myself physically-like buy a bikini and look in the mirror every day with it on. Never mind. . .erase that mental picture! 

Personal Development Goals:
1) Possibly take classes to get my teaching certificate back
2) Continue blogging at least 3 times a week.
3) Work hard and diligently at my job with Apartment Life. Look for ways to honor God and help others in what I do. Take every thought captive when working with applicants.
4) Garden this Spring throughout the fall. Very enjoyable. Very rewarding.

Looks like a wild year. And my God always brings on a couple of extras in there. My hope is that my security will lie in Him only this year. . .not things, people or any other distractions. . .only in Him!

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”—Prov. 16:9 (NIV)

and the conversation went something like this

Setting: Me at Kroger
Time: 7:30 am

Ideal Bread Guy: Good Morning!
Me: Good Morning, how are you?
Him: Ideal, how bout yourself?
Me: Great, thanks! Me walking off. . . giggling!

Someone told me that the Ideal bread guys say that when asked how they are doing, but I forgot until after he said that!!

Also, another funny thing happened at Kroger. One of the guys who works there at Kroger asked me where the Parmesan cheese is!!! Oh my! All of this before 8 am. . .too much!

Menu Plan Monday

Monday - steak (on sale at Kroger), loaded baked potato, broccoli and cheese, rolls (kidless- woah!)
Tuesday - Open Faced Stroganoff Sanwiches; one of my friends taught me how to make these and to me they taste like "po boys cheese steak sandwiches." I use swiss cheese instead of cheddar.
Wednesday - back to school and work!! Need to put that crock pot into action! Roast, potatoes and carrots
Thursday - helping with Becky's Bible Study; making ham and cheese sandwiches on hoagie buns, chips, pickles and drinks; need some cookies- how about No Bake Cookies
Friday - Chicken Packets; my daughter (6) loves to help me make these and even better than that she loves to eat them!!
3 oz cream cheese
3 T melted butter
2 cups diced cooked chicken (I use my mini food processor)
1/8 tsp salt and pepper
1 T chives

Saturday - celebrating Christmas with extended family - how long can we draw this out???
Sunday - taco, taco salad!

Happy New Year!!

The Coolest Blog Post Ever

You can see that there is a gap in my posting and I promise I have a very good reason. . .not to mention celebrating Christmas with mi familia!

A few months back I was sitting at a restaurant with a friend and we started talking about what we could do for a mutual friend. Our friend is a single mom of four kids. That alone should make your hair stand on end. She is not only a single mom of four kids. . .she works full time as a vet technician at my friend's clinic as well as leads a Bible Study for about 20 neighborhood kids on Thursday nights. . .which includes feeding them dinner. Ok, and to top that off she helps lead worship at our church faithfully every week by sharing her talents on the keyboard. You get my drift, she is Elastigirl from the Incredibles. But before you get too jealous at her many talents, think of how bad her feet hurt every day after work, cooking, household chores, homework and getting four kids to bed. I mean, gee wizz, I can't even get my two to bed without a hissy fit (me, not the kids!)

Ok, ok back to the story of my friend. So that very day we started the thought process on what we could give her that would be meaningful and special. We decided to do an "Extreme Home Makeover" on her bedroom. At the very least, when she kicks up her heels at the end of the day we wanted her to have a cozy, comfy place!

The next step was the laborious act of shopping for everything :) We started around Thanksgiving picking up what we needed for her room and we realized there were a few things that we wanted to get for her kiddos. As we drew nearer to the project we got a game plan together. She was going out of town for Christmas and someone needed to check the house (wink, wink!) We got the key and entered the home of our sweet friend's answered prayers. We realized we were in for the long haul then.

She will admit. . . it was pretty bad when we got there. The week before she left to go out of town her second youngest was hospitalized for two days with severe abdominal pain and when she got him out of the hospital she was in charge of a Christmas party for her neighborhood kids. Can you believe it??!! She is giving a Christmas party for neighborhood kids when she had not been home in two days and was going out of town the next day! Would I do it, no way!? Party cancelled. . .everyone find your own toys and Bibles. Sad, but true.

Now you are about to see something really special. . .God's people working together to do something for someone who deserves it more than she will ever know. People, not fighting, but with joy in the heart loving on someone who has no clue. We got a lot of amazing donations from around town and several extremely generous donations of money from people within our church. I got to be Ty Pennington with my camera and yes we did yell, "Let's move in some furniture, people! and Welcome Home, __ Family, Welcome Home!!!" It had to be the most amazing, beautiful experience of my life to be included in such a project.

I cannot show all of the before and after's, it will be mostly after's because just like you wouldn't want me to show your before's I don't need to show hers! :) Got me? :)

We took all of her mini-blinds in her bedroom down and gave them a good washin' and a good talkin' too and said, "No more dust!!!" When I was a teenager I did not know that there were things other than music and friends. This gal is amazing, wouldn't you agree? There were several teenagers who came to help with our kids and to scrub toilets and various other things. This gal has to definitely make the blog!

Two amigos who know how to get after it and paint!! They helped paint her room and the trim as well as like a thousand other things that they helped with. They did a little shopping with me too :) Fun times, girls. . .fun times!

Oopsie, that was not what you were supposed to be painting!! :) Another laborer under my regime. :) You are awesome.

Ok, I am freaking out about how to introduce you to her new room. You may want to go over there and sleep in her bed! It is yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I will give you an appetizer picture to give you a taste.

Are you drooling?

She needed a nook. Did you see the sign on the door. . .it says, Queen. . .do you hear that kids. . .don't wake up the Queen!!

Ok, on for the main course. . .I have led you on for too long.

You want to see her face? I know. . we're both grinning from ear to ear, but she is the one in the back with the fur on her black coat.

This is the way she looked the whole time. She clapped, jumped up and down, gave her kids high fives. . .mind you it was midnight when she got in and she had more energy than ever when she saw all that had happened "while she was out!"

This was just her room and I will show a few shot at my other favorite places that we set up for her.

Organization is a must with four kids!

her table is set

her kid's beds are made

and the kids are all tucked in. . .Night Night! God bless you, you sweet family!

Menu Plan Monday

Monday - Marinated Pork Loin, green bean bundles, broccoli salad, rolls and Christmas Eve Service
Tuesday - breakfast - Blueberry French Toast, sausage. . . snack around rest of the day
Wednesday - BBQ/coleslaw/beans
Thursday - Chicken Pot Pie, On this All-Recipes recipe I usually only add one can of veg-all and 1/2 cup of milk
Friday - Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas
Saturday - Concert
Sunday - TACO, TACO Salad!!!

Merry Christmas!! I am so glad to be part of your bloggy world!

Because I Promised Michael W. Smith I Would!

Yeah, Michael and I go way back. . .back to couple weeks ago when he let me try out his new CD for free!!! I have listened to a lot of his music before, but this takes the cake. It is beautiful! We listened to it at our gift wrapping day at our church. We listened to in the car on the way to mini-Las Vegas! It is beautiful. If you are looking for a last minute gift for someone who appreciates good Christmas music, then this would be a sure bet for them. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I could not figure out how to put his click through option on because of my lame beginner skills so here is the link to his website where you can actually listen to the CD.

Talking Time Out

When we lived in Dallas we had a 45 minute commute to school twice a week for our kids. We carpooled with another family and so you can imagine that somewhere in that hour and a half there would be some sort of strife.

The bad thing about driving in the car is that when you have any kind of disobedience from your kids you either have to lean over the seat and give them a good talking to or you have to say, "You better hope that we don't have to pull this car over." You can't really put them in their "time out seat." They're already there! There are just not a lot of ways to discipline without having to take desperate measures.

My husband was kind of irritated with the kids for their bickering so he invented "Talking Time Out." Time out has always worked to some degree with our kids, especially our son who is very rule abiding. But this really worked. Basically, when they are bickering or using course language in the car they get "talking time out" for however many minutes we determine.

Let me tell you this has redirected our kids more times in the car and made riding with them much more enjoyable. So for those long holiday trips, try "talking time out" to help make great positive memories!!

It works for our family! Is there anything else that you have found to keep car rides sane? Leave a comment and share! To find out more great holiday ideas, check out Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer.

Another Great Gift Idea

if I do say so myself!

I was visiting someone else's blog and she mentioned the sprinkles and cookie cutters. . .sorry I forgot who it was or I would link back to you. It gave me the idea to do Santa cookies for some of my friends and family.

The kit includes cookie mix, icing, sprinkles and Christmas Cookie Cutters. I am going to give them this sack of goodies so that they can make family memories and leave Santa some cookies on Christmas Eve. I might write a little poem or something to go with it if I get creative! I will update this post if that happens!

Do you think that they will like this, in lieu of making them cookies, or another gift? I would love to get your feedback on other gift ideas for friends and family! Just leave your link or comment below!
